Kathleen Ferrier, Schubert, Brahms, Wolf, Stanford, Jacobson And Rubbra With Bruno Walter, Gerald Moore, Frederick Stone - Kathleen Ferrier Remembered: Broadcasts Of British Songs And German Lieder 1947-1952 album download

Remembering Kathleen Ferrier: A collection of German Lieder and British songs, including 19 previously unpublished tracks: 1947-1952, with Bruno Walter, Gerald Moore and Frederick Stone. Kathleen Ferrier’s legacy of recordings has been well-known and widely-admired for over 60 years. So it seems amazing that, after so long, a treasury of previously unpublished and little-circulated BBC broadcasts is now being released. So we can hear her sing Lieder by Schubert and Brahms and songs by Stanford and Jacobson which have never before been issued. Technically Leech’s discs do not match the standards of Ferrier’s Decca recordings but with the dedication and expertise of sound engineer Ted Kendall, they have been given new life and offer us a more complete view of Ferrier, the song- and Lieder- singer.

Kathleen Ferrier discography. In the course of her professional life the English contralto Kathleen Ferrier made a large number of recordings. In the summer of 1944 she signed a contract with Columbia, which lasted until February 1946. The following list is neither up to date nor entirely accurate, particularly in regard to a CD issue, entitled 'Kathleen Ferrier Remembered', released in June 2017, on SOMM264, comprising 26 tracks, 19 of which have never previously been issued. Most of these 19 are not listed below. They include Lieder by Schubert, Brahms, Wolf and Mahler and songs by Stanford, Parry, Jacobson and Rubbra, all taken from BBC broadcasts between 1947 and 1952.

Kathleen's Ferrier's legacy of recordings has been well-known and widely-admired for over 60 years. In typical fashion, SOMM leads the way in remembering great composers and artists of the past and Kathleen Ferrier is one of hte most divinely gifted among them. These recordings are from two sources.

Kathleen Ferrier (contralto), Gerald Moore, Bruno Walter, Frederick Stone (piano). Over 60 years after Kathleen Ferrier’s tragically early death, is she now more than a name to some listeners? She was the greatest British singer of her day, internationally famous, an outwardly straightforward Lancashire girl with a rich contralto voice of such singular, plangent beauty and sensitivity that it apparently moved Herbert von Karajan to tears. She makes even more of Rubbra’s sombre Three Psalms and Jacobson’s ecstatic ‘Song of Songs’, with her frequent accompanist Frederick Stone, and, with Gerald Moore, the cheerful Parry ‘Love is a Bable’, live from the 1948 Edinburgh Festival. Some of the Schubert doesn’t perhaps bring out the best in her; the opening ‘Musensohn’ lacks the sprightliness that Janet Baker (an inevitable comparison) achieves.
