Elton John is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Elton John, released on 10 April 1970 by DJM Records. It was released by Uni Records as John's debut album in the United States; many people there assumed it was his first album, as Empty Sky was not released in that country until 1975. Elton John includes his breakthrough single "Your Song", and helped to establish his career during what was considered the "singer-songwriter" era of popular music

The great thing about this early live record is its obscurity - not just that this isn't one of his better-known records, but that the set list is a fanboy's dream, heavy on album tracks, covers, and the kinds of song that make Elton John's early work so individual.

The album 17-11-70 was not meant to be a live one at all; we did one of the first ever stereo radio broadcasts live at A&R Recording Studios in New York City in 1970 on the 17th of November. It was Phil Ramone’s studio, one of the greatest producers of all time, and we just went in the booth and played it as a three-piece: Nigel Olsson on drums and vocals, Dee Murray on bass and vocals, and myself. There was a studio audience of about 100 sitting outside the booth, hearing it coming through the loud speakers, and we just played. The plane itself was losing its appeal in general, thanks to changing economics and increasing fuel costs, and was eventually dismantled for parts. But for four years in the mid-1970s, and much like Elton’s caree. hat a ride!

17-11-70 Audio CD. Elton John. In the early 70s Elton John had quite a few firsts, all in the span of a few years. Elton almost exploded onto the American music scene in 1970, and was so popular that albums could hardly be released fast enough. From a business perspective, it made sense to release as many albums as possible from a young artist that hit the top 10 with his first two . Further, live albums were relatively popular in the early 70s, and it appeared important for Elton to have one. Thus, this album was one of four 1971 releases for Elton. This particular release went to in the charts.
